I was born in 2001.

I am gender queer and polygamous.

I was born and raised in China under the one-party rule of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). As a result of opposition to the totalitarian rule of the CCP, several of my friends have been arrested by the Chinese government. The police once broke into my home and took me, my mother, and my mother’s boyfriend to the police station for an informal interrogation, threatening to put me in jail and impose exit restrictions on me if I didn’t change my mind and stop publishing articles against the CCP’s authoritarian rule.

I am currently applying for political asylum in Italy.

These experiences led me to daily panic attacks and suicidal thoughts. Since 2019 I have been on daily antidepressants, anti-anxiety medication, and I have also been on mood stabilisers, which I stopped taking in 2020-2022 due to financial difficulties and not following my doctor’s orders. Luckily, I was able to start taking them again because I have free access to psychiatry and free medication because of the National Health System in Italy. Six months ago I was hospitalised in a psychiatric hospital for a week because I wanted to commit suicide.

According to Italian law, applicants for international protection have to wait six months before they can legally work in Italy. My single mother, who is still in China, has been in financial difficulties and is no longer able to support me financially. The Italian friend who was providing me with accommodation was no longer able to host me for personal reasons. Therefore, I am facing homelessness and hunger.
